Welcome to Celtic Harmony Camp!

Celtic Harmony Camp Accessibility Statement

At Celtic Harmony Camp, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience our unique site. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment and removing barriers where possible to ensure everyone gets the most out of their visit.

Pre-Arrival

If you are visiting for a family event such as Samhain, we recommend going to the Plan Your Family Visit page on our website.

If you are visiting with a school, the lead teacher will have been sent a Teacher Pack including all of the important information prior to arrival.

Celtic Harmony Camp is located a 10 minute drive from Hertford town centre. If you are arriving by car, you can use GPS services to navigate to our postcode which is SG13 8NY. Once you reach Brickendon Lane you will see a sign indicating that Celtic Harmony Camp is 2 miles away.

The 308 Arriva bus provides a regular service from Cuffley train station to Hertford bus station. You can see the timetable here. You will need to alight at ‘Brickendon The Farmer’s Boy PH’ and from there it is a 10 minute walk down Brickendon Lane to Celtic Harmony Camp.

If you are using public transport to reach us, we recommend taking the train to Bayford station, then walking to Celtic Harmony Camp, which can take between 20-30 minutes. Bayford station is served by Great Northern national rail, with a route that runs from Stevenage to Sevenoaks via central London. You can find a timetable here.

Here is a map of the route from Bayford station to Celtic Harmony Camp drawn out. The route does require walking on country roads in places, so it is important to consider whether you feel comfortable doing so.

Taxi Services

Alternatively you can book a taxi for a 5-minute drive. There are a number of local firms to choose from, here is a selection:

If you are travelling from a nearby town, you can also try using Herts Lynx, a bookable bus service which also provides information on local buses.

If you have any questions or require assistance before you arrive, please call us at 01438 718 543 or email days@celticharmony.org.

Parking

There is a large car park, free to use for visitors, which has marked Disabled bays. There is space for approximately 80 cars. There is a 5 minute walk up to camp via a pathway, if you are unable to do this due to mobility issues, you can request to drive up the path to the main entrance of camp. Please call 01438 718 543 to discuss this with our team.

Toilets

We have a number of toilet facilities for you to choose from in the camp grounds. There are composting toilets at the entrance, but you must climb stairs to access these. We also have a step-free toilet block with 11 individual flushable toilets with hand washing facilities. In an adjoining room there is one large accessible toilet which includes a grab rail, emergency pull cord, shower facility, baby change unit, hand washing facility and a bench. There are two further large toilets with showers. All of our toilets apart from the composting toilets are gender neutral.

Carers

On family days we offer 1 free carer ticket to registered carers attending with disabled visitors. We recognise that some situations require more than one carer, further tickets may be available at Celtic Harmony Camp’s discretion. Please contact us in advance to make us aware of any carer tickets needed as soon as you make your booking by emailing days@celticharmony.org

Evacuation Procedures

Your safety is our priority, and we have well-established evacuation procedures in place. In the event of an emergency such as a fire, staff will support you to the fire assembly point which is outside the mammoth gate at the entrance to site.

Terrain

Celtic Harmony Camp is completely step-free and fully accessible by wheelchair and pushchairs. Some pathways can be slightly uneven due to the rustic nature of the site, grass areas may also become waterlogged during rainy periods. There are stone and dirt paths throughout the site as well as a woodland path ensuring access through the woods. We always recommend wearing strong outdoor shoes or wellies for your visit to Celtic Harmony Camp to ensure you are well equipped for the terrain.

Dogs

Due to Celtic Harmony Camp being a conservation site we do not allow visitors to bring dogs during their visit, with the exception of guide dogs.

Finding Your Way Around

If you are visiting with a school you will be accompanied by a Prehistory Educator throughout your day who will meet you in the car park and guide you around the site.

If you are visiting for a family day such as Samhain, you will be provided with maps on arrival and informed about the location of relevant areas on site. There are signs around Celtic Harmony Camp with information about different areas. Staff members are easily identified by their green tops displaying the Celtic Harmony logo. You can see a site map below.

Catering Options

We have a cafe on site which is open at select times only.

For school visits (not residential trips) the cafe is open between 12:15 – 13:15 serving hot drinks and snacks.

For selected family days (Samhain & Easter Dragon Quest) the cafe is open all day providing hot meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. The menu is subject to change, you can see a recent one here

Free drinking water is available at the cafe and via taps at the back of the cafe.

There are gluten free and vegan options available, and the catering team are happy to assist you with any questions about specific dietary requirements. Allergies and medical conditions are incorporated into the training of catering staff, who are fully aware of the ingredients in food. We are able to cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, and nut free diets. As well as provide options for low-sugar diets.

Roundhouses

We have 6 small roundhouses at Celtic Harmony Camp and 1 large roundhouse: the Chieftain Roundhouse. The floors of the roundhouses have been lime-washed (a natural material that leaves a white hard surface finish like cement) to facilitate access. The roundhouses have been painted white inside to ensure maximum visibility and each one is equipped with lighting to allow for safe access and lip-reading if needed. Lighting is often kept low in the Chieftain Roundhouse for effect as it allows for a fire to light up the space more dramatically. If you require enhanced lighting for your visit please let a member of our team know. Each roundhouse is step-free and the Chieftain Roundhouse has space available for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Heated Areas

Celtic Harmony Camp is an outdoor centre, but there are warm indoor areas available. The centrally located Prehistory Centre is heated during colder weather, and there are heaters in each roundhouse which can be used when needed.

Seating

There is plentiful seating available throughout Celtic Harmony Camp. You will find seating in every roundhouse, the Prehistory centre, the cafe, and there are benches available throughout the woodland.

Facilities

We have created a video which you can view below to get an idea of the facilities available at Celtic Harmony Camp, in addition to our roundhouses and Prehistory centre. (Pending, will be added soon)
