In August 2024 the Celtic Harmony Team visited Will Lord of the Stone Age for a two-day training course in Primitive skills, as part of Lavina’s Legacy, made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

With flint-knapping on the first day and bronze casting and other Primitive skills on the second day, they have returned to Celtic Harmony Camp with a brilliant haul of items to use for displays and in teaching days.

It was truly experiential archaeology and brilliant CPD training for the Educators’ Primitive Skills. Here’s how we got on…

After a demonstration, the team practiced their flint-knapping skills. We worked with Will to perfect our technique, making hand-axes and arrowheads. 

In the evening we enjoyed a meal around the fire, before camping and sleeping in Will’s world famous Earth Lodge!

The next day we learned about Bronze casting and made our own Bronze swords to bring back to camp.

After casting the swords and axe heads, we then ground them to smooth them out and sharpen them up!

We then spent time learning and mastering other Primitive skills, such as netting.
